The Annual East Coast She Crab Soup Classic, presented by ECPI University's Culinary Institute of Virginia, is a ticketed event and returns to 24th Street Park at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The event is always fun for the entire family. An open competition among local restaurants, the soup classic focuses on one of the region’s most-loved seafood delicacies. This highly identifiable cuisine has been a staple of area menus for decades. Who doesn't love the rich, creamy taste of homemade She-Crab Soup... the "taste of the south"! 

Restaurants serve their individual recipes and compete for People’s Choice Awards, determined by the ballots of those attending.  Critic’s Choice Awards also are given by a panel of four leading regional cuisine experts.

Ticket pricing: $17.50 (plus $1 service fee) in advance; $25 (plus $1 service fee) day of show if tickets are available.

Children 12 and younger who are not sampling and are accompanied by an adult are free. Dogs and beach chairs are not permitted in the tasting area.  The event will be held, rain or shine.

McDonald's Holiday Lights at the Beach (presented by Liberty Tax Service) will be held from November 18th - January 1st bringing joy and wonder to Hampton Roads each and every holiday season! 

Take a shining journey into nautical, holiday, and adventure lands – all along the beautiful Virginia Beach boardwalk.  Festive fish, jumping dolphins, frolicking porpoises – all in bright, colored lights against the clear night-time sky, are the stars of McDonald's Holiday Lights at the Beach.  They are joined by Santa, elves, and a 40-foot tall Christmas tree erected on the beach and in the beautiful parks along the Virginia Beach boardwalk. 

Over 25,000 families a year make this unique light show a part of their holiday celebration!  This “Fanta-Sea” of lights is sure to dazzle and amaze holiday travelers visiting Virginia Beach.  One of the highlights is the giant “12 Days of Christmas” display, where some fixtures stand 20 and 30 feet high!  Drivers are able to tune their car radios to a frequency to hear holiday music along the Liberty Tax Service’s Holiday Lights at the Beach display, making it easy to see AND hear why this event has been named one of the Southeast Tourism Society’s “Top 20 November Events” and the American Bus Association's "Top 100 Events in North America for 2011!"

McDonald's Holiday Lights at the Beach opens nightly beginning at 5:30.  Hours of operation are 5:30pm-10:00pm Sunday through Thursday and 5:30pm-11:00pm Friday-Saturday. All vehicles enter through the main entrance at 2nd Street.  Cash only accepted at the gate. The Holiday Lights are on from 5:30pm-10:00pm Sunday through Thursday and 5:30pm-11:00pm Friday-Saturday.  All vehicles enter through the main entrance at 2nd Street.

2016 marks the 43rd anniversary for the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival! Every year, hundreds of thousands of people celebrate at the festival’s many offerings! Daily concerts at festival stages are scattered along 32 blocks of the boardwalk and feature a variety of live music and performers. Ignite your taste buds and satisfy your shopping savvy at this year's outdoor shopping and dining experience... from crab cakes to Italian ice, stained glass to pottery, there is sure to be something to delight young and old festival goers alike.

Neptune Festival Grand Parade

Streets lined with people, colorful floats in all shapes and sizes, larger-than-life balloons, marching bands...all of which is just a small snapshot of Neptune's Grand Parade on Saturday.  Find yourself the best spot on the block as you enjoy the music and sights of our many parade units.  Be sure to keep a weather eye out for King Neptune and his court!  With a 16 block parade route, a bad spot is hard to find.

Make sure you get there early though for front row seating as many of the floats will have beads and other fun toss giveaways to give to the crowd.  Come cheer your favorites as all roll down Atlantic Ave starting at 11:30 AM.  As a highlight of Neptune Festival, this free event is a must for all, young and old alike.  So take a seat on the curb and watch the entertainment roll by.

Neptune’s Art and Craft Show

Forget stuffy galleries and fancy lighting for the weekend...Come enjoy art and crafts under the sun with an unbeatable backdrop of the Atlantic ocean.  Neptune Festival's Arts and Craft Show features over 300 artisans displaying handmade work from paintings and sculptures, to photography and glasswork.  Mosey your way through the tents and displays and find a piece of the show to bring home with you!

Produced in cooperation with the Museum of Contemporary Art, this juried art show requires pre-registration to participate, but viewing is free and open to the public.  Artists and craftsmen in all media are eligible, and acceptance is based on a blind jury process. This show does not include a section for commercial or imported products. In all cases, the spirit of our guidelines intends that the work depend heavily on the “handmade" aspect of art and craft. We do not allow buy/sell and we reserve the right to remove work from the show that violates our policies and guidelines. International Sandsculpting Championship

How else can one describe this new and improved event any other way than with an experience? With a world-class venue, talent, and prize purse, Neptune's International Sandsculpting Championship has distinguished itself as a premier event unlike any other for miles. From the gallery feel and extended viewing hours, your sandsculpting fill can be quelled with a single visit.

It's been the signature event of the Virginia Beach Neptune Festival since its inception.  Now it becomes the signature event of an entire region as the International Sandsculpting Championship expands to ten days.  With an international field of sculptors representing countries from around the world, the expansion of the competition puts this as one of the most distinctive events of its kind in the world.

NEPTUNE'S KINGDOM:  LAND OF SAND -  A huge tent, almost as large as a football field, will house 22 sculptures created by 12 solo and 10 doubles teams! Sculptors will compete for the largest prize purse awarded in the country.  Admission: $5 per person. 12 and under is free while accompanied with adult. Also, receive a free discount lunch coupon with admission ticket. No Pets Allowed.

Chalk The Walk ARTsplosion

"Chalk the Walk ARTsplosion" takes over the Virginia Beach Boardwalk from 10:00 am-5:00 pm on Saturday, July 9, 2016 as hundreds of artists and “wanna-be artists” gather to turn the boardwalk into an impromptu canvas of color!  Artist registration will be on the boardwalk at 17th Street, and art will be displayed for two blocks between 16th and 18th Streets.

Advance registration for the Chalk the Walk is not required and there is no fee to participate, but we do ask that artists bring their own chalk. 

The theme for 2016 is "Rock the Walk". We are encouraging all artists to incorporate a musical theme into their pieces. From illustration of a memorable performance, a favorite album cover or instrument, to a more abstract approach depicting how a piece of music makes you feel, there are a plethora of ways to interpret this theme and make it uniquely yours! 

At Chalk The Walk ARTsplosion, participants draw four by four foot chalk drawings for two blocks along the boardwalk. 200 competitors complete chalk drawings to be evaluated by a panel of judges. Judges score the drawings according to criteria such as composition, use of color, adherence to theme, and overall creativity. 

There are three competitive divisions: Amateur, Professional, and Youth. The Youth division is for ages 12-16. Children 11 and under are invited to draw for fun in a separate area. Trophies and cash prizes are awarded for each division, with winners announced at 4:30pm at the registration tent. The hours for the Chalk the Walk are 10:00am-5:00pm. 

All participants must register by 1:00pm to qualify for the competition.  All drawings must be completed by 3:30pm to be eligible for prizes.

2014 Summer Fireworks!

After a relaxing day at Sandbridge Beach, why not gather up the family and head to the Boardwalk for a spectacular fireworks display.  From the rockets' red glare to the star-spangled sky, our oceanfront makes an awe-inspiring backdrop for summer fireworks.  Twice a week this time of year (Wednesdays and Sundays), the Virginia Beach night skies come alive... in a big way!   

The fireworks celebration began June 27th and will continue throughout the entire summer and into October.  Don't miss the rare chance to wiggle your toes in the sand as the aerial excitement lights the sky - it's a blast!

As always, our city provides these firework displays FREE OF CHARGE to the public and are launched from a barge off the beach at 20th street, giving you a great view from anywhere along the Boardwalk.

59th Boardwalk Art Show 

June 12 - 15, 2014

The Boardwalk Art Show is one of the oldest and most respected outdoor fine art shows on the Eastern seaboard, and this summer will mark our 59th year. This year's artshow is presented by PNC Bank. 

The show is consistently ranked in Sunshine Artist Magazine’s Top 40 fine art shows. The four-day festival is one of the most popular in Virginia, attracting collectors and artists from across the nation (300 in fact!) with an average attendance of more than 250,000. The show runs along the Virginia Beach boardwalk from 19th Street to 33rd Street, overlooking the sandy beach and Atlantic Ocean.

The jewel of the show is the Boardwalk Beach Club, a 60' tented space along the boardwalk for those who want to celebrate a special day. Beach Club ticket holders enjoy valet parking, open bar and unparalleled lunch service provided by Steinhilber's (includes famous Steiny Shrimp), all in a lovely shaded space with comfortable seating, private bathrooms and beautiful views of the ocean.

This year we're giving families a special day at the Boardwalk.
