The Adventure River... DOLPHIN DERBY!

On May 17th, Ocean Breeze Waterpark's Opening Day... 5,000 tiny toy dolphins will make a BIG SPLASH as they dash through the Adventure River in a race for the finish line during the inaugural Dolphin Derby, benefiting Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation.

These "Porpoises with a Purpose" can be adopted for $5 each; or supporters can sponsor five dolphins for $20. They will be dropped into the Waterpark’s Adventure River and begin racing at 10:30 a.m. on May 17th to raise money for children battling life-threatening illnesses in Hampton Roads.

Dedicated to making dreams come true for children battling life-threatening illnesses in its communities, Chartway's "We Promise Foundation" hopes that the family-fun fundraiser will generate waves of change for local families. Since 1999, the credit union and its We Promise Foundation have raised more than $5.8 million to bring smiles to the faces of more than 1,200 children. “We are grateful to be able to partner with Virginia Beach’s premiere waterpark to present this inaugural Dolphin Derby,” said Karen Lane, executive director of Chartway’s We Promise Foundation. “Since Ocean Breeze is synonymous with generating joy for families and children, this was the perfect location to host a unique event that will hopefully raise much-needed funds to give heroic children the gift of a dream come true.”

To further encourage the support of the community, participants who sponsor a dolphin in advance will be able to purchase discounted all-day admission passes to Ocean Breeze Waterpark for its opening day for only $19.99 plus tax.

Brian Baker, general manager of Ocean Breeze Waterpark shared, “We love the idea of kicking off our 2014 season with a charitable Dolphin Derby. This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community, and we hope that everyone will join us for the fun and festivities on May 17th to launch the 2014 season.”  Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, and all proceeds from dolphin sponsorships will be given directly to Chartway’s foundation. Dolphins are available for purchase now at all local Chartway Federal Credit Union branches, at Ocean Breeze Waterpark, and at the Ocean Breeze Waterpark kiosk at Greenbrier Mall.
