Little Free Library
Did you know there is a "Little Free Library" right here at Sandbridge Beach? Eve and Jeff Butts have sponsored a Little Free Library at 340 Tuna Lane in Sandbridge Shores (1 mile south of the Fire Station). The library is one of 19 registered in Virginia Beach and the first to come to Sandbridge.

Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. Anyone can pick up a book or two, or bring a book to share.  It is a great way to share your favorite books with the community. The library is for all who live in or visit the Sandbridge community. The book inventory changes continually so there are always new ones to choose from. It caters to all reading levels, from adult to children. The library system functions on the honor system; everyone contributes to ensure there are always quality books inside.

For those unfamiliar with the Little Free Library network, the organization was started by Todd Bol of Hudson Wisconsin in 2009 as a tribute to his mother, a former school teacher who loved reading. The idea behind the Little Free Library is to promote reading for children and literacy for adults. Amish carpenter Henry Miller of rural Caston Wisconsin became the primary craftsman of little free libraries as the movement spread.

In 2012, Little Free Library became a nonprofit corporation. The concept grew exponentially, and by January 2015, the total number of registered Little Free Libraries in the world was conservatively estimated to be nearly 25,000 with thousands more under construction.  For more information about this organization, visit http://littlefreelibrary.org

We hope you'll take advantage of our beach community library by stopping by the Little Free Library box at 340 Tuna Lane.  Take a book or give/return a book... and enjoy the read!
