The Annual East Coast She Crab Soup Classic, presented by ECPI University's Culinary Institute of Virginia, is a ticketed event and returns to 24th Street Park at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. The event is always fun for the entire family. An open competition among local restaurants, the soup classic focuses on one of the region’s most-loved seafood delicacies. This highly identifiable cuisine has been a staple of area menus for decades. Who doesn't love the rich, creamy taste of homemade She-Crab Soup... the "taste of the south"! 

Restaurants serve their individual recipes and compete for People’s Choice Awards, determined by the ballots of those attending.  Critic’s Choice Awards also are given by a panel of four leading regional cuisine experts.

A limited number of tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.

Ticket pricing: $17.50 (plus $1 service fee) in advance; $25 (plus $1 service fee) day of show if tickets are available.

Children 12 and younger who are not sampling and are accompanied by an adult are free. Dogs and beach chairs are not permitted in the tasting area.  The event will be held, rain or shine.

6th Annual East Coast She Crab Soup Classic

The 6th Annual East Coast She Crab Soup Classic will be held from Noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26th at the 24th Street Park at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.  An open competition among over 15 participating restaurants, the She Crab Soup Classic focuses on one of the region’s most-loved seafood delicacies.  

The highly identifiable cuisine has been a staple of area menus for decades. Restaurants serve their individual recipes and compete for People’s Choice Awards, determined by ballots of those attending.  Critic’s Choice Awards also are given by a panel of six leading regional cuisine experts.  

History of She-Crab Soup:

She-crab soup originated in South Carolina in the 1700s and was based on a Scottish bisque recipe known as partan-bree. Initially, the soup was simply seafood and rice. Adding crab roe, or crab eggs, is what gives the soup its moniker. William Deas, a butler and cook for R. Goodwyn Rhett, mayor of Charleston, first added roe to the soup in an effort to impress President William Howard Taft, who was the mayor's dinner guest.

Tickets / Information:

A limited number of tickets are available for The East Coast She Crab Soup Classic.  Advance tickets are on sale for $14 (plus service fees) through all Ticketmaster outlets, and at the Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center (2100 Parks Avenue)  Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center hours are 9:00am-5:00pm. Tickets are $18 day-of-show, if available.  Children 12 and younger who are not sampling and are accompanied by an adult are free.
