On Saturday, June 15th, the Sandbridge night sky will be filled with beautiful "Lanterns of Love" in remembrance of those fighting or who have lost their battle to cancer. This event is being organized by A Dolphin's Promise to help raise money for the Livestrong Foundation.
Prior to the release, a “Walk of Remembrance” at 7:30pm will be held
along the beach in front of the Sandbridge Market. Participants can walk along a path of
luminaries lit in memory of cancer victims and survivors. After the walk, the “Lanterns of Love”
will be released, which should be a breathtaking sight to behold! These will also be dedicated to individuals
and will have personal messages attached. Luminaries
are available for $5. Lanterns are available for $10.
Chinese Sky Lanterns
are airborne paper lanterns traditionally constructed from rice paper and a
bamboo frame. A small wick is lit inside and the lantern only flies as
long as the candle stays lit. When they fall back down to the ground or water, they are completely biodegradable and will not harm the
environment or sea life.
If for some
reason you cannot attend this event, but would still like to sponsor a
luminary or lantern, organizers can take a photo of your dedication for you.
